Ode To Dorothy; Her Final Frame. | Our Front Rose Garden
2009-0413

Ode To Dorothy; Her Final Frame.

This photo below is the final frame of my beloved Dorothy, my Digital Rebel 300D. Her last photographic click. This white rose from our home rose garden was her grand finale. After several years of faithful companionship, her second shutter has suddenly refused to operate. Her well worn camera body shows her age and her willingness to perform in a variety of harsh environments. Yes, she was missing a knob here and has several scratches there, but she proved herself as a tried and true DSLR camera. While surgery and subsequent rehab are an option, I have felt it best to let Dorothy end her career on a strong note.

Typically, flowers aren't my subject matter of choice, but I think it is fitting that she performed in such a manner right up to the end, regardless of the subject. The roses are compliments of the only person to come between Dorothy and me; my wife. These gorgeous roses are just a sampling of the many that Dorothy and I have photographed as a team over the past six years.

Dorothy lived a good and full digital life, providing her photographer with countless hours of photographic pleasure. She will join her analog film relatives on the display shelf here at home. Aunt Edna (Canon AE-1p) and Uncle Albert (Canon A-1) will be flanking her on the SLR shelf.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her brother Kit (18-55mm kit lens). Kit fell to his death while on a trackside mission in Fullerton, CA. Sadly, Kit rolled into the path of an oncoming Toyota Camry and was smashed to smithereens. Dorothy is survived by Seventeen (17-40mm L lens, Kit's replacement) and Big Dan (the 75-300mm telephoto lens). Big Dan was on duty at the time of Dorothy's passing, and is credited along with Dorothy for this final image.

May Dorothy Rest In Peace.

I haven't really taken advantage of this blog-like space on my website.

Which thought or thoughts to share would be the biggest obstacle in my path to posting here on a regular basis. Journaling is part of my life, but those thoughts written are of a personal variety, hardly the concern of those that might stumble onto this photograhpic website.

Photographically, my thoughts have been on exposure lately, proper exposure. Too much light is better than not enough, or so I have been musing. Digital images thus far seem to prefer about a third more, all the way to a full stop more light. Too much exposure for a night image can make it appar too much like a daytime capture,

Thanks for listening. Feel free to use the contact feature on my info page to confirm or deny, or to extend the conversation further.

Abandoned Quarters -- Needs Work

An interior view of the living quarters left for dead. My favorite of the batch from Danby.
